Agnes L. (Cavanaugh) Puff

Beverly formerly of Gloucester - Mrs. Agnes L. (Cavanaugh) Puff, 85, of Beverly formerly of Gloucester passed away on Friday, October 5, 2018 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Puff, Sr., having married him in 1956.
Agnes was born June 29, 1933 in Gloucester, she is the daughter of the late James J. and Edith (Stanley) Cavanaugh. She was a resident of Gloucester for most of her life where she attended public school and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1951. Agnes furthered her studies, graduating from the Chandler School for Women in Boston, MA, in 1952.
Agnes was an Executive Secretary/Accounting for the Gloucester Housing Authority. She later worked on Cape Ann as a Medical Secretary and Medical Transcriptionist for the Medical Associates of Cape Ann, Cape Ann Medical Center, Cape Ann Surgical Associates, Addison Gilbert Hospital, and The Medical Group in Beverly.
Her Church activities included serving on many boards in several capacities at Calvary Baptist Church in Riverdale. Agnes was known for her art shows and support for local Cape Ann artisans. Having been classically trained in piano and organ, Agnes provided these talents at Calvary as well as the First Baptist Church in Gloucester for many years. She also loved animals, music, art, poetry and Interior Decorating.
Agnes is survived by her three children, Robert E. Puff, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Kittery Point, ME, Amy L. Puff of Beverly and James S. Puff and his wife Brima Padlan-Puff of Andover; her brothers, James Cavanaugh and his wife Frances of Gloucester and Dennis Cavanaugh and his wife, Ann of Murrells Inlet, SC, her sister, Shirley M. LaFrance and her husband, Frank of Gloucester. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Dorothy Cavanaugh, many nieces, nephews and cousins in Massachusetts, California, New York, South Carolina, Gloucester, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, Canada.
She was predeceased by her brother the Rev. Dr. Jack R. Cavanaugh, and her sisters-in-law Ruth E. Puff and Florence P. Schultz.

Agnes’ visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester on Tuesday evening October 9, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be in the Funeral Home on Wednesday morning October 10, 2018 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Gloucester.
