Rockport - Ann Elizabeth Parsons McNiff, of Rockport, passed away bravely, surrounded by family and friends on April 2, 2019. Ann was born on February 15, 1943, to the late Ernest and Blanche (White) Parsons. She graduated from Gloucester High School, class of 1961, and received her associate degree from Chandler School for Women in Boston. Ann will be remembered as a smiling, laughing, mischief seeking, pig-tailed little girl, enjoying an idyllic childhood in Rockport, a doting and patient mother raising her pride and joy, her four children, and a proud grandmother bragging about her 12 grandkids. Ann had cherished memories of spending days, sun-up to sun-down on Long Beach with her dear friend Peg Warde, chasing around their combined 10 kids. She also loved dinners with friends, summers on Bearskin Neck, taking nature pictures, trips to Aruba and always wearing flip-flops-rain, snow, or shine!

With her former husband, John D. McNiff Sr. she lovingly raised her four children: John D. McNiff Jr., husband of Leslie, of Gloucester, Laurie Twombly, wife of Don, of Rockport, Eric McNiff, husband of Gail, of Gloucester and Christine Twombly, wife of Todd, of Essex.
She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Justin and Kylie McNiff, Emma, Calvin, Phoebe and Tessa Twombly, Jason, Brooke, and Austin McNiff, Casey, Wil, and Joslin Twombly; her nieces and nephews, especially her devoted niece Krista Tucker Penman; her sister-in-law, Henriette McNiff, and many life-long friends.
Ann is predeceased by her sister, who was her partner in crime and best friend, Christine Parsons, and her brother David Parsons.

Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923. In keeping with her wishes, services will be held privately.
Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, MA. Online condolences may be given at

Ann and l were good friends at Gloucester High. We dated 2 ‘’boys’’ who were friends of each other. She and l laughed a lot about this. I never check the local papers about the passing of friends from my days at GHS. We were happy and carefree then.

My love goes out to Jay, Laurie, Eric, and many fond memories growing up in your house, swimming in your pool, mini biking over jumps, hot dogs and burgers a plenty, skating on Niles pond and too many sleepovers to name. Your mom always there, giving us the freedom to be crazy kids. I can still see her smile and hear her laugh, she was constantly dealing with my braces breaking at her house on account of too many Swedish fish from Bertha shopping sprees. I always admired her keen eye and awesome interior design sense. Godspeed to her and blessings to her beautiful children and grand kids!
