Anna E. (Putaansuu)'s Story
Mrs. Anna E. (Putaansuu) D’Antonio, 89, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning August 3, 2016, in Golden Living Center. She was the devoted wife of the late Ralph F. D’Antonio.
Anna was born in the Lanesville family home, July 8, 1927, daughter of the late Henry and Ida W. (Macki) Putaansuu. Anna attended Gloucester Schools. She had a love for the arts, fashion, music, and nature.
In 1948 she married her sweetheart “Freddy”. They soon moved to California, and would make frequent visits back to Gloucester. In 1965 Anna and Fred, with their nine children, made Bayview their home.
She worked for the Gloucester Public Schools in the Cafeteria for many years until her retirement. She previously worked at Gortons.
Anna was a strong wonderful woman who was kind to everyone she met. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinner for her family and extended family, fondly referred to as dinner at F & A’s house. Anna was affectionately known as Nana to her grandchildren whom she cherished. She was always ready for any type of celebration. Anna enjoyed life. She had “SISU!"
She is survived by her children, Theresa Hilshey of Boston, David D’Antonio of Rockport, Peter D’Antonio and his companion, Kate DeCoste of Gloucester, and Jacqueline Silva and her husband, Michael of Gloucester; 11 grandchildren, Joel, Luke, JC, Nicholas, Michael, Ashley, Timothy, Alyssa, Joshua, Samual and Matthew; three great-grandsons, Houston, Holden and Dawson; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly D’Antonio of Gloucester; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was also the last surviving of her 12 siblings.
She was predeceased by her children, John D’Antonio, Anthony and Paul D’Antonio, Mary Parisi and her husband, Big Nick, and Sylvia Thorndike; and her granddaughter, Michelle Thorndike and grandson, Kevin Hilshey. She was also the mother-in-law of the late Valerie D’Antonio.
Anna’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Joachim Church, Broadway, Rockport on Wednesday, August 10, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
