Anna K. (Kreiton)'s Story
Mrs. Anna K. (Kreiton) Roewer, 98, formerly of Gloucester passed away on July 16, 2016 in Brooksby Village. She was the loving wife of the late Edward W. Roewer.
Anna was born April 3, 1918 in Gloucester, daughter of the late John and Mary (Puranen) Kreiton. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1935. She went on to further her education and graduated from Salem Teacher College in 1939.
She was a teacher and taught at the Collins School and Central Grammar in Gloucester. Ann taught for over 30 years until her retirement. She previously taught at Hanover Elementary School in N.H., Pembroke Country Day in Kansas City, Mo., Sunset Hill School in Kansas City, Mo., as well as Reading and Essex Schools.
Anna chaired the Gloucester High School Scholarship Fund for 12 years. She also chaired the Annisquam Sewing Circle Scholarship Fund for 25 years, a member of the original group of founders of the scholarship fund. She was one of the original members of the Folly Cove Designers. A former member of the Bass Rocks Golf Club. A member of the Annisquam Yacht Club and the Cape Ann Garden Club. Anna loved traveling with her husband, she also enjoyed gardening, communicating and learning from her elderly friends. She enjoyed teaching and tutoring. She especially enjoyed her 85th birthday when Ed invited all of their nieces and nephews for a surprise three day celebration.
Anna is survived by many devoted nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Lempi M. Kreiton and Siiri K. Nichols; her brothers, D. Victor Kreiton, Arvi J. Kreiton and Benjamin Kreiton.
