Anthony J. "Tony"'s Story
Captain Anthony J. Tocco, 80 of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday morning in Addison Gilbert Hospital after a brief illness. He was the loving husband to Rosemarie E. (Pimentel) Tocco with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Tony was born March 16, 1936 in Gloucester, son of the late Dominic and Patrina (Orlando) Tocco. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and attended Gloucester High School.
He was the owner and Captain of the Madonna Dela Grazie, and was a Fisherman for over 40 years until his retirement. Tony enjoyed telling his many stories about fishing and working on the ocean. He saved the Captain on the Little Flower. After retiring from Fishing Captain Tocco worked at Gortons, Addison Gilbert Hospital and Captain Carlos.
Tony was a longtime dedicated communicant at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church. He was a member of the Cape Ann Flyers and raised and raced Pigeons. He was a talented wood worker he made three guitars and enjoyed drawing. A former member of the St. Peters Club. He and Rose were avid Jitter Bug dancers for many years. He was a devoted family man who will be missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his loving wife, Rose, Tony is survived by his four children, Tori Ann Enes and her husband, Dominic of Gloucester, Jeanine Malaquias and her husband, Peter of Gloucester, Mark J. Tocco and his companion, Linda Sanford of Warren, Maine and Dion M.C. Tocco of California. His brother, Vincent Tocco and his wife, Susan of Gloucester; two sisters, Angie Maggiore and her husband, Onofrio of Gloucester and Sarah Sears of Gloucester. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Captain Tocco’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Monday, May 9, 2016, from 4 to 7 p.m. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Prospect St. Gloucester on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 9:15 a.m. There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday in the Church prior to the Mass beginning at 8 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
