Augusta "Cede"'s Story
Augusta “Cede” Panos, 87, of Plant City, Fla., formerly of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2017, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was the wife of James Panos and the daughter of Sebastiano and Cologera Lovasco, born on September 23, 1930, in Boston.
Cede worked in the cafeteria at St. Peter’s High School for several years. After that, Cede and her business partners ran the Gloucester beach concessions from 1970 to 1985. Cede also co-managed the cafeteria for Gorton’s of Gloucester. Prior to retiring, she worked at Oakwood nursing home in Magnolia. Cede always had a passion for music and dance. Her joy came through the most while singing along to her favorite tunes. Although not all would agree, her family thought she had the voice of an angel. Her happiest times were teaching dance alongside her husband, Jim. They taught both old and young everything from ballroom to line dancing. They also deejayed many weddings, dances, and parties around the North Shore and Florida. Above all, Cede loved family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining a house full of family and friends, and just being the “hostess with the mostest."
In addition to her husband, Jim, of 35 years, Cede will be greatly missed by all, but especially her son, Alfonso Mineo and his wife, Patricia; daughter, Natalie Sweet and her husband, Mike; son, Sebastian Mineo and his partner, Scott Ranagan; and their father, Santo Mineo; grandchildren, Dawn, Carrie, Keith, Chris, Nathan, Aaron, Bethany, Jennifer, Brian, and Bryan; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Cede was loved and considered “Mom” or “Grammy” by more than her immediate family. These names, used by friends and extended family, were a term of endearment and a testament to her nature.
She was predeceased by her brother, Anthony Lovasco; and sisters, Rose Palermo, Lee Lovasco, Grace Stack, Netta daSilva, Angie Pallazola, and Geraldine Lovasco.
Cede’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish on Pleasant Street at the corner of Smith Street in Gloucester. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery. Please join the family for lunch at the Gloucester House at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Cede’s name to Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern Massachusetts, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452; or The American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
