GLOUCESTER: Mrs. Barbara A. (White) Dawe, 83, of Gloucester passed away on Monday morning, March 14, 2016, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House with her family at her side. She was the loving wife to H. Melvin Dawe, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.
Barbara was born February 3, 1933, in Gloucester, daughter of the late Forrest and Evelyn (Tucker) White. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. A graduate of Gloucester High School, she then went on to the former North Shore Babies Hospital.
Barbara was devoted to being a stay at home mother, which she cherished. She previously was a Nannie.
She was a member of the Gloucester United Methodist Church. She enjoyed square dancing, working with stain glass, the beach and traveling. She enjoyed arranging flowers.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff of Senior Care, TLC, Care Dimensions and especially the staff at the Kaplan Family Hospice House for the devoted care that was shown to Barbara.
In addition to her devoted husband, Melvin, Barbara is survived by her daughter, Linda Corliss of Gloucester; her son, Melvin F. Dawe of Orlando, Fla.; her three grandchildren, Jonathan Corliss and his wife, Rebecca, Christie Fahey and her husband, Dustin, Jaimie Corliss and her husband, Paul Durgin. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Selphie Corliss, Tyler Fahey, Kylie Fahey and Dreya Corliss.
She was predeceased by her brother, Reverend Forrest L. White and her sister, Constance Bradbury.
Barbara’s Funeral Service will be in the Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In following with Barbara’s wishes there will be no visiting hours. Interment will be in Wesleyan Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made in Barbara’s name to the Gloucester United Methodist Church.
