Benjamin L. "Libby"'s Story

Benjamin L. “Libby” Ciaramitaro, 75, of Gloucester, husband of Patricia (Ciaramitaro) Ciaramitaro, passed away on Tuesday evening, March 21, 2017, with his loving family by his side, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester, after battling Alzheimer’s Disease for many years.
Benjamin was born in Gloucester, on August 14, 1941, the son of the late Capt. Joseph and Felicia (Curcuru) Ciaramitaro. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Libby was a dedicated son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and devoted friend. He was a great dancer, whether it be ballroom, jitterbugging or waltzing with his beautiful wife, Pat. They enjoyed many years living in Gloucester and part time in Naples, Fla. Libby was a member of the Glen Eagle Golf and Country Club in Naples, Fla. and the Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester. His expertise in golf earned him three hole in ones. A ride around Cape Ann, the Back Shore, stopping for an ice cream or sitting at the beach was more than relaxing for him. Everybody loved him and wanted to be his friend. He played cards, trivia, and had great fun being a jokester. He and his brother Charlie, were co-owners of Captain Joe & Sons until their retirement in 1991. They were best friends, business partners, golf partners and they were each other's confidantes. Above all, he adored his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. Libby, known as a sharp dresser and handsome man, will be missed by all who encountered his warmth, humor, and love. He is survived by his wife, Pat, children, Joey Ciaramitaro and his significant other, Katelyn Foley. Felicia Mohan and her husband Barry, and four grandchildren, B.J. and Amanda Mohan and granddog, Coconut, Eloise and Madeline Ciaramitaro, and Katelyn’s son, Connor Hill, all of Gloucester; his sister, Gerri Genthner and her husband Clelle of Damariscotta, Maine; a beloved sister-in-law, Angela Ciaramitaro of Rockport; brothers-in-law, Frankie Ciaramitaro and his wife, Leanne of Gloucester, Tony Ciaramitaro and his wife, Louisa of Manchester-by-the-Sea; sisters-in-law, Karen Ciaramitaro, Eleanor Curcuru and her husband Anthony, Gina Ciaramitaro, all of Gloucester; nieces and nephews, Larry, Joey and Cosmo Marcantonio, Licia Trupiano, Frankie Ciaramitaro, Amy Thomas, and Alison Ciaramitaro, Alissa and Anthony Curcuru, Frankie and Jessica Ciaramitaro, Zachary Ciaramitaro and Monique Langley, Robin Gentner Lailer,and Amy Genthner Parrish. In addition to Libby’s family, a very special friend, Catherine Bagnasco of Michigan, as well as many friends from Gloucester and Naples. He was predeceased by his brother Charlie Ciaramitaro and his dearest friend, Barry Hallet.
There are no visiting hours and his Mass will be held at a later date so that all family members will be able to be present. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Friends of Seacoast, for the Atlantic Shores Alzheimer’s Unit, 292 Washington St. Gloucester, MA 01930.
