Bernice L. "Bunny"'s Story

Bernice L. (Gibbs) Cahill, 92, of Gloucester, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late William J. Cahill. Bernice, “Bunny”, was born on January 25, 1925 at 22 Shepherd St, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Beatrice (Dunn) Gibbs. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School and Boston Laboratory and Technical School. Bunny was a lab and x-ray tech at Addison Gilbert Hospital for several years. She also worked for the Boston and New Haven Railroad until she married Bill and started their family. Bunny enjoyed her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had many interests in her younger days, the beach, Maine camp, braiding rugs, painting, sewing, reading and just relaxing. She was a “Jack of all trades”. She will be greatly missed by all. Bunny was a kind, patient and forgiving lady. Bunny is survived by her three children, William G. Cahill, Stephen J. Cahill and his wife Jane, Eileen O’Connor and her husband Edward; her cherished grandchildren, Bryant, Jared and Taylor Cahill, Abigayle and Brett Cahill, Daniel and Nicole O’Connor and her companion, Steve Militello; great-grandchildren, Riley and Cameron O’Connor, Jarred Johnson, Dylan and Beau Militello. She is also survived by her brother Ralph W. Gibbs and her sister, Maureen Noble and her husband Ralph, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters-in-law Victoria Gibbs, Ruth, Elizabeth, Margaret, Ann, Mary and brother-in-law, John Cahill.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 29 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home on Monday at 10 a.m. with her burial to follow in Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester.
