Beverly Black Lopes, age 91, recent resident of Danbury, Conn., and previously of East Dennis, Mass., quietly passed away on Dec 5, 2017. Beverly was born and raised on Madison Avenue in Gloucester, Mass. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1943 and attended the University of New Hampshire. She entered UNH as an education major and joined the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. There she married her husband, Richard Lopes, also of Gloucester, who predeceased her in 2010. As the wife of an Air Force officer, she moved from assignment to assignment spanning across America always making the experiences a great adventure for her family. She settled her three children in new schools and quickly became involved in community activities.
Beverly is survived by her three children, Linda Lopes Messick of Chester Springs, Pa., Dr. Richard T. Lopes and wife, Linda of Asheville, N.C., and Laura Lopes Luke and husband, Robert of Ridgefield, Conn.; along with five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
As a longtime member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable, Mass., she especially enjoyed preparing for and participating in the annual Holly Fair. Bev was an avid gardener and member of the Dennis Garden Club. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting and was well-known for her creations. She had a zest for life and shared that trait with family and friends.
A private celebration of her life will take place on Cape Cod in the spring.
