Gloucester - Carol Lee (Tucker) Hanrahan passed away peacefully at Beverly Hospital on June 7, 2019, surrounded by her family.
Carol Lee was born in Gloucester, Mass., to the late Clayton and Harriet (Gerring) Tucker on April 17, 1934. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Carol Lee grew up in Riverdale and attended Riggs Elementary School, Central Grammar and Gloucester High School, where she graduated in 1952. Following graduation of high school, she went to work for Babson-Elwell & Davis Insurance Company of Gloucester until she and Marty married in 1960 and started a family.
Carol Lee enjoyed time spent with her four beloved grandsons, whom she beamed with being their Nana, especially when visits were scheduled and Nana made her special chocolate cake for "her boys." In her spare time she became an avid knitter and would often make specials gifts for family, friends and newborns. Over the years Carol Lee enjoyed vacationing with her family, traveling many places along the east coast from Maine to Florida, but held a special place in her heart for her many trips to Tennessee with Marty. Carol Lee was member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a Past Worthy Advisor of Gloucester Assembly No. 41, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. She served on the Advisory Board of Gloucester Assembly for several years and was a member of the Grand Cross of Color. She was also a life-long proud member of the Riverdale United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school, served the congregation and later she and her beloved Marty were married in 1960.
Carol Lee is survived by her son, Dale Hanrahan of Gloucester; daughter, Holly Hanrahan of Saco, Maine; and son, Barry Hanrahan, husband of Lisa, of Haddon Township, New Jersey; and four grandchildren, Andrew Goodwin, husband of Brigitte, of Buxton, Maine; Jack Hanrahan, Tyler Hanrahan and Cameron Hanrahan, all of Haddon Township, New Jersey; her special niece Karen Tucker and nephew David Tucker, husband of Eleanor, and sister-in-law Jeanette Johnson, all of Gloucester. In addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Martin ("Marty") Hanrahan; her brother, Wesley C. Tucker and his wife and her sister-in-law, Josephine "Jo" Tucker; her cherished niece, Sandra Lee Tucker; her brother-in-law, Donald "Jake" Johnson and his wife Yvonne, and brother-in-law, Robert Johnson.
Carol Lee's funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, at the Gloucester United Methodist Church in Riverdale, 436 Washington Street, at 10 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will follow in the Wesleyan Cemetery in Riverdale. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, June 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carol Lee's memory to the Gloucester United Methodist Church, 436 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
