Mrs. Catherine A. (DeCaro) Vannah, 90, of Gloucester passed away suddenly on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 in Addison Gilbert Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Edwin J. Vannah, Sr. with whom she shared 45 years of marriage.
Catherine was born April 22, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Philomena “Fannie” (Danna) DeCaro. She was a resident of Gloucester for most of her life. Catherine went back to school as an adult and received her diploma.
She worked in the Meat Department at Stop and Shop for many years until her retirement in 1990. After retiring she worked part time for Action Inc.. Catherine previously worked for A & P for several years. She also worked on the Gloucester Waterfront.
Catherine loved spending time with her family, she loved dancing as well as an avid bowler. She also enjoyed playing bingo, cards and sitting in the sun.
She is survived by her children, Edwin J. Vannah, Jr. and his wife Donna of Ipswich, William A. Morris, III and his wife Karen of Ipswich, Catherine M. Porper and her husband, William of Gloucester and Frances T. Moore of West Warwick, R.I. She is also survived by her cherished five grandchildren, her five great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews including Dana DeCaro and his wife Paula of Gloucester with whom Catherine shared many holiday dinners.
She was predeceased by her son, Fredrick Vannah, her son-in-law, Joseph Moore, her brothers and sisters John, Joseph, Leo and Theresa M. DeCaro as well as Josephine Santos; her nephew, Leonard Santos, Jr. and her longtime best friend, Joseph Puccio.
Catherine’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St. Gloucester, on Sunday, October 22, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be in the Funeral Home on Monday morning, October 23, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
