Charles R.'s Story
Charles R. Martin, 82, of Danvers, formerly of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Brentwood Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Danvers.
He was born in Gloucester on July 5, 1934, son of the late James R. and Esther E. (Alphen) Martin.
Charlie was educated in the Gloucester School System. He was employed for many years as a manager at Bursaw Oil, now Townsend Oil, and worked until he was 70 years old. He proudly served in the United States Marines during the Korean War.
During Charlie's retirement years he enjoyed going to car shows with his sons. Charlie loved taking Sunday drives in his cherished Cadillac. Charlie loved Christmas Eve when all of his children and grandchildren would celebrate at his home. He loved having his family around him. Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his five daughters, Esther Rowe and her husband, Jim, Mary Ann Favazza, Lisa Reppucci and her husband, Tony, Marie Testaverde and her husband, John, Michele Muniz and her husband, Drew, all of Gloucester; two sons, Charles Martin and his wife, Kristen of Danvers, Paul Martin and his wife, Michaela of Middleton; 18 grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Andrea Martin of New Hampshire; and his brother, James L. Martin and his wife, Maryann of Florida.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Andrea “Sam” Martin; son, James “Rusty” Martin; two sisters, Eva Perkins and Marcia Hughes.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours or services, and the burial will be held privately.
