Ocala, FL - Charlotte Cameron Mitchell of Ocala, FL, died peacefully at home, with her beloved husband by her side on December 29, 2018.
Born at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA on September 22, 1941, she was the middle child of the late Robert and Shirley (Hansen) Cameron. She was predeceased by her son Shawn Ford. In addition to her husband, Joseph, Charlotte is lovingly remembered by her sister, Patricia (Steven) VanGilder (Seminole, Fla.), her brother, Robert V. (Jaroslava) Cameron (Prosperity, SC), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Charlotte was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, aunt, and friend. She grew up surrounded by a close- knit extended family that consisted of nine aunts and uncles and many cousins. Charlotte enjoyed countless hours with them making music, playing cards and boardgames together.
She was guided by her faith and was deeply committed to The Rockport Baptist Church, both as a parishioner and a volunteer. Her work ethic and joyful nature were two of her most admirable traits. Whether she was singing in the choir or organizing Sunday school classes, Charlotte did it with zest and a love for life that was unparalleled.
For many years, she worked for the Rockport Police Department as their meter maid. Everyone in town knew Charlotte for her lilting, upbeat voice. Locals and tourists alike enjoyed chatting with her in passing as she had the gift of lifting people up and sharing her glass half full mindset. She led by example and saw the good in everyone.
Charlotte married the love of her life, Joseph Mitchell, on December 3, 1989. They shared innumerable adventures together and one of their greatest passions was traveling to new destinations on their motorcycles. An avid crafter, they spent many contented hours together, as Charlotte knitted, crocheted, or did needlepoint. In her later years, Charlotte enjoyed calling Florida home and relished the time spent with her husband, his family and their many dear friends.
Charlotte deeply touched the lives of all who knew her and remained close throughout her life to her loving nieces, Deborah Roski and Laura McMinn.
Private services will be held at a future date.
