Chester J.'s Story
Chester “Chet” J. Bachry, 55, of Manchester-by-the-Sea, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.
Born in Beverly on May 8, 1961, he was the son of Marion “Mimi” C. (Charney) Bachry of Manchester and the late Walter J. Bachry.
Chet was a graduate of Manchester High School with the Class of 1979. After high school, he followed his love of the ocean and fished on his brother-in-law’s boats, the “Deborah Victoria” and the “Deborah & Karl." He later owned and operated Valentine Movers out of Manchester and ran the business with great pride and went above and beyond to please all of his customers.
Chet was well known to his family and friends as one of the most kind and compassionate persons you could ever meet. He was always helping friends, and even strangers, with moving, cleaning, shoveling, or whatever was needed. Chet loved the outdoors, his walks around Magnolia, saying hello to folks as he went by, and even cleaning up trash on the beach as he went along.
He was especially close to his nieces and nephews, whom he thought of as his own children. He would attend every one of their athletic events and made sure he was always there if they needed anything.
In addition to his mother Mimi, he is survived by his siblings, Deborah Sandler and husband, Neal; Mark Bachry; Vudju Bachry and wife, Sandra; his twin brother, Peter Bachry and Lale Mustafa; Alice “Alicen” Latassa and husband, Robert; Eric Bachry; Karl Bachry and wife, Heidi; nieces and nephews, Karl Sandwich and wife, Stephanie; Justin and Ali Sandler; Matthew Bachry; Katelyn Bachry and Andrew Thurber and their children, Luke and Scott; Jessica Bachry; Alec Bachry; Jake and Katey Latassa; Oliva Bachry; Blake, Madeline and Mason Bachry; and many, many close relatives and friends.
His funeral Mass will be held in Sacred Heart Church, Manchester on Tuesday, August 23, at 10 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
The burial will be held in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester.
Contributions may be made in Chet’s memory to the Magnolia Library Center, 1 Lexington Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930, in recognition of their devotion to the community.
