Christine M. (Pratt)'s Story
Mrs. Christine M. (Pratt) Murphy, 62, of Gloucester passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at home. She was the wife of the late Stephen J. Murphy.
Christine was born August 22, 1955, in Gloucester. She was the daughter of the late Gloucester natives Ralph and Josephine (Sallah) Pratt. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of St. Ann’s School. Christine’s passion was working in retail. She shared her talent with the community as the owner of the former Errors from the East on Main Street, Gloucester. Christine ran her shop for over 15 years until her retirement. She also worked for ARC as a caretaker, the Gloucester Marshalls, and many other retail stores. Christine was a wonderful, loving mother who cherished the time she spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her warm smile and her contagious laughter. Christine was known for her generosity and she had a heart of gold. She helped many, especially those who struggled with addiction. Christine was a longtime communicant of Holy Family Parish at St. Ann’s Church.
She is survived by her two sons, Matthew B. Murphy of So. Portland, Maine, and John L. O’Connor and his wife, Enilse of Beverly. She was the youngest of nine brothers and sisters, Michael H. Pratt and his wife, Gail (Martin), Mary Jo Montagnino and her husband, James V., Joseph T. Pratt and his wife, Carol (Mitchell), Karen Budrow, all of Gloucester, James A. Pratt and his wife, Deborah (Nelson), of Rockport, Mass., Stephanie P. Densmore and her late husband, James of Shapleigh, Maine, and Shelly F. Pratt and her partner, Fred Nelson; and her brother-in-law, Anthony Loiacano of Gloucester. She is survived by her cherished grandchildren, John Michael and Julianna O’Connor and Claire E. Murphy. Christine is also survived by her special aunt, Regina Sallah Girard and her husband, David of Magnolia; her uncle, Majeed Sallah and his wife, Aileen of Gloucester; her longtime friend and companion, John Padre of Gloucester; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and many beloved cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Cynthia A. Loiacano; her daughter-in-law, Roxanne Murphy; her brother-in-law, James Densmore; her nephews, Seamus Densmore, Thomas Pratt, Charles Pratt; great-niece, Malia Pratt; and great-nephew, Charles Pratt.
Christine’s visiting hours will be held at Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Thursday evening, November 2, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish in St. Ann’s Church, Pleasant St., Gloucester, on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private.
