Deborah's Story

Text size

SALISBURY, MA: Deborah passed away peacefully Monday morning at Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Ipswich, Mass., and was the daughter of the late George and Elaine (Griffin) McKay.

She grew up in Essex, Mass., and became a C.N.A., working in area hospitals and nursing homes for many years. She was a fan of going to concerts with her boys, seeing Jimmy Buffett, Alan Jackson, and local favorite, the Adam Ezra Group. One of her proudest moments as a mom was when she watched her three sons perform on stage with Jimmy Buffett at Great Woods in 2002. She was an avid Patriots fan and loved watching them win the Superbowl multiple times. She also enjoyed shopping, the sun, her pool, the beach, Days of our Lives, cooking, and exercising at the senior centers.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gary Kitchin; her three sons, Kyle Kitchin of Salisbury, Keith Kitchin of Scarborough, Maine, and Kevin Kitchin and wife, Melissa of Manchester, N.H.; her three grandchildren, Emily and Cooper Kitchin of Sebastien, Fla., and Griffin Kitchin of Manchester, N.H.; one brother, Mark McKay of Essex, Mass.; her sister, Barbara Eldridge of Seabrook, N.H.; her nieces, Krystle and Jaquine McKay and Katlynne and Jennifer Eldridge. She was also proud mom to her beloved animals Nellie, Pinto, Chi-Chi, Sadie, and Papi.

Calling hours for Deborah will be held this Friday, September 18, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home 118 Friend St. in Amesbury, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830 or to the MSPCA, 350 South Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02130.
