Diane L. (Andrews)'s Story
Diane L. (Andrews) Shaw, 69 of Beverly, passed away peacefully at her home on July 2, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
Diane, the daughter of the late Lewis W. and Theresa (Canillas) Andrews, was born in Ipswich. She grew up in Essex, Mass., attending the Essex schools and graduated from Gloucester High School Class of 1966. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Bridgewater State University and later a Master’s degree from Salem State University. A dedicated teacher, she taught in the Haverhill school system, mostly in the Hunking Middle and Bradford Elementary schools, for 36 years retiring in 2006.
Diane loved gardening and traveling. She could often be found working in one of her flower or vegetable gardens so she could have beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. Meanwhile, during her life she traveled with family visiting sites in Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico and the U.S. She especially loved the trips to Disneyworld with her husband and daughters and the many gymnastics road trips including trips to the YMCA National, in places like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and New York. Meanwhile, she loved watching figure skating, gymnastics and equestrian events. She loved horses. An equestrian in her earlier years, she and her horse, Fussbudget would participate in local equestrian events. Other times, she and Fussbudget could be found on a leisurely ride on the local trail accompanied by her Golden Retriever, Tawney. She also loved her home town, Essex. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her daughters and her little granddaughter.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Robert K. Shaw, her daughters, Lauren Burkett and her husband, Cody of Rowley, Heather Baldwin and her husband, Matt of Essex, a granddaughter Mia Burkett of Rowley; her brother, David Andrews of Essex.
