GLOUCESTER: Attorney Dianne C. Alves, 66, of Gloucester passed away Sunday evening, January 10, 2016, in the Den–Mar Health and Rehabilitation, with her family at her side.
Dianne was born April 2, 1949, daughter of the late John S. and Mary (Firth) Alves. She resided with Thomas and Dawn Alves in Gloucester since 2014. She previously resided in Cambridge for 35 years. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1967, Emmanuel College in 1971, and New England School of Law, where she received her Juris Doctorate in 1985.
She worked as an attorney in Cambridge, Mass., with Attorney William Walsh for nearly 30 years.
Dianne had many interests in life. She was a beautiful knitter and had an avid interest in American and British history. Dianne loved to read Shakespeare, and the works of Charles Dickens and Jane Austen. She looked forward to her many trips to England, where she would explore the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, and Harrods for hours. She also enjoyed Harry Potter and Gloucester beach outings with her niece and nephews, and cheering on the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She loved animals, and always had a treat for all of the family pets.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Jeanne Phipps and her husband, Michael of Seattle, Wash., and Lois Alves of Chelmsford; her three brothers, John Alves, Thomas Alves and his wife, Dawn, and Christopher Alves and his wife, Denise all of Gloucester; her devoted niece and nephews, Nathan Phipps and his wife, Neeta Phipps and their daughter, Karina Phipps, Ben Phipps and his wife, Emma Ferguson and their son, Hudson Ferguson Phipps, E. Daniel Phipps, John C. Alves and his wife, Jacqueline, Samantha Alves, Mathew Alves, Jacob Alves and Marc Alves.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend Dianne’s memorial Mass at Holy Family Parish in Saint Anthony-by-the-Sea Chapel Corner of Saint Louis Avenue and Farrington Avenue, Gloucester on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
