Donald H.'s Story
Donald H. Seiffert, 78, of Rockport, passed away in the Addison Gilbert Hospital, Gloucester, on Saturday, October 21, 2017, after battling a rare disease, Amyloidosis. Don graduated from Malden High School and enrolled at Wentworth Institute where he obtained his Associate’s degree in mechanical engineering. Upon his retirement in 1994, he moved to Rockport and fulfilled his dream of living by the ocean. He quickly became involved in the community, serving as a member of the Thacher Island Association, member of the Granite Pier committee and the manager of Granite Pier, and later, a member of the Harbor Advisory committee. Concurrently, his love of the sea led him to sailing and sailboat racing with friends from Sandy Bay Yacht Club and Eastern Point Yacht Club. When he wasn’t on the water his interest turned to researching and collecting historical items. He is survived by his son, Richard Seiffert of Hermosa Beach, Calif.
Don’s visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, MA, on Wednesday, November 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. Family and friends are invited. In keeping with Don’s wishes there will not be any service and his burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Donald’s memory to a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be given at www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
