Donald S.'s Story
Donald S. Graves, 85, of Gloucester husband of the late Margaret P. (Gilligan) Graves, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at his residence.
He was born in Marblehead, Mass., on May 14, 1931, son of the late Arthur S. and Elizabeth M. (Schofield) Graves. He was a graduate of Marblehead High School, Taber Academy, and received his degree in Business from Babson College. Mr. Graves served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Donald was owner and treasurer of the family business, Graves Boat Yard in Marblehead. He loved working around the house, woodworking and gardening. He was also an avid sailor. Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl M. Chapman of Harvard, Mass.; sons, Charles H. Griffin Jr., a Lynn Police Officer, and his wife, Cathy of Lynn, and John R. Griffin of Gloucester; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Thomas and her husband, Marc, of Westford, Mass., Andrew Chapman of Marblehead, Shannon Griffin of Marblehead, Kellie Griffin and Brian Griffin, both of Lynn, Kelsey Griffin of Baltimore, Md., and Dana Griffin of Chestertown, Md.; two great-grandchildren, Ariana and Juliette Thomas of Westford, Mass.; his brother, James Graves and his wife, Helen of Florida and Maine. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Milmore, and brother, E. Selman Graves.
His Memorial Service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA, on Thursday, July 7, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
