Donald I. Tupper, 69, of Rockport, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and admiration in his home after a very long and courageous battle with cancer. Don was born on October 2, 1946, to S. Regina (Walima) and Irving Tupper. He attended Rockport Schools, where he played on the baseball, math, and basketball teams, graduating in 1964. He then attended Bentley College, until entering the Air Force in 1966, serving until 1970, stationed at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Ching Chuan Kang Airbase Taichung, Taiwan and Bolling AFB, Washington, D.C. Don later completed his degree in accounting from Bentley College. He enjoyed softball, golf, pool, bowling and poker with his friends. Don worked at Gloucester Engineering for 36 years in accounting. He was a member of the Rockport American Legion #98 and shared many close friendships throughout his life. Always a man of his word, he shared and ingrained his values in his children. All who had the pleasure of knowing Donnie knew his quick wit and humor. His greatest joy in life were his two grandsons, Zachary and Benjamin. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Tupper of Rockport; his son, Dennis Tupper and his wife, Andrea and their two children, Zachary and Benjamin of Beverly; a nephew, Michael Tupper and his wife, Deborah and their two children, Michael and Meghan of Rockport; and a nephew, David Tupper of Gloucester and his son, David and his wife, Anelize of Dunedin, Fla. He leaves behind many special friends including Cliff, Pierce, Ralph, Brian and Marcel. He was predeceased by his parents, Irving and Regina Tupper; former wife, Joyce Franko-Tupper; brother, David and his wife, Bunny Tupper; his sister, Diane Tupper; and a nephew, Jeffrey Tupper.
In respecting our father's wishes, there will be no services. Dennis ran the Boston Marathon two years ago on the Dana Farber team. He ran in honor of our mother, and friends and family impacted by cancer. We are honored to announce that he will be running again for Dana Farber in the next Boston Marathon. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a donation, you can do so at www.rundfmc.org/2017/tupperfamily.
