Dorothy's Story

GLOUCESTER, MA - Dorothy L. McGillivary, of Gloucester, wife of the late Kenneth F. McGillivary Sr., went home to the Lord on February 27, 2018. She was born on September 29, 1932. Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo, taking trips to Foxwoods, and watching crime and game shows. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy, at the young age of 30, with her husband Kenny, had eight children, the oldest being only eleven years old. She absolutely cherished being a mother, never complaining and enjoying every moment raising her children. She had great morals, was extremely honest, had a great sense of humor, faith in God, and adored the blessed Mother. She is survived by her eight children, Joseph McGillivary, Kathleen, wife of Ronald Esty, Deborah, wife of Joseph Grace, Kenneth F. McGillivary Jr., Karen Knowles, Elizabeth (Betty) wife of Daniel McDougall, Marilyn, wife of Gordon Goveny, James McGillivary; her grandchildren, John O'Connor and wife Anucee, Erin (Geraghty) Johnson, Christopher Knowles, Kelly Knowles and her companion Alex Aro, Meagan Knowles and her companion Darren Saunders, Jaime Barry (Mike), Daniel McDougall, Steven McDougall, Cristy Grace, Renee Grace, Laurie Grace and her fiancé Matt Curley, David, Gordon III and Derek Goveny, James McGillivary Jr., and James Odum; great-grandchildren, Cameron Martinez, Jesenia (Jesi) Martinez, fiancé of Dylan Girard, Jaelyn Martinez, Altonie Johnson Jr., Kerry (Mikey) Barry, Taya Barry, John O'Connor Jr., Julianna O'Connor, Levi Knowles Aro, Bryan Saputo, Ava-Hull McDougall, Casey and Isabella Curley, James Vidala, Justin L'Abbe, Zachery Lacey, Logan and Lacey McGillivary, and Cody Odum. She is also survived by two sisters, Priscilla Colville, wife of Alan, and Sharon Weldon (Ernie); sisters-in-law Noel DeYoung, Marjorie Cusick and brother-in-law Robert McGillivary. She was predeceased by her parents, Dominic and Kathleen (Sheehan) DeYoung; granddaughter Heather Ann McGillivary; nephew Lenny Weldon; sisters Mary Dorr, Lucretia Wright, Rosemarie LeClerc; brothers Dominic and Paul; son-in-law Mark Knowles, sister-in-law Geogine Hill, Helen (Sis) Nickerson, Lois Ruta, Betty Laurzano, Joseph McGillivary, Stuart McGillivary Sr.; her best friend Marjorie Hooper, and mother-in-law Helen (Crowley) McGillivary.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, will be held on Thursday, March 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral will be held from the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Pleasant Street, Gloucester, at 9:30 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited.
