Eleanor's Story

GLOUCESTER- Eleanor F. Hilton, 89, wife of the late Lester C. Hilton of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, February 5, 2018 at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Gloucester on July 27 ,1928, daughter of the late James and Harriett (Poole)Bradley.
She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1946.
Eleanor worked in the office of the Linen Thread Company on Maplewood Avenue then took a clerical position with the City of Gloucester Welfare Dept. and retired as a Social Worker in 1990 after 34 years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Welfare Dept.
She married the love of her life, Lester on February 5, 1950. They travelled extensively across the United States and Europe. One of her greatest joys was working in her garden. Her home always had fresh flowers straight from her garden. She also enjoyed spending time with her extended family.
She was a past member and officer of the Emblem Club, the ladies auxiliary of the Gloucester Lodge of Elks. She was also a member of the Post Office's Ladies Auxiliary.
Eleanor will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews including Jane wife of the late Jerry Noble, Lisa Zellenka, John Zellenka and his wife, Maureen all of Gloucester, and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Rita Zellenka and her husband Ludwig, and brothers, William Bradley and his wife Frances, Walter Bradley and Robert Bradley.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Tuesday, February 13, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
There will be no visiting hours. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
