GLOUCESTER, MA - Emilia M. Gingras, 71, of Gloucester, passed away after a lengthy illness on January 16, 2018. Emilia was born on May 6, 1946, in Figueira Da Foz, Portugal, the daughter of the late Manuel and Irene (Lopes) Maia. She had received her Associates degree in Education and taught kindergarten in Portugal, and then came to America in 1983 to make a better life for her children. Emilia loved the Portuguese culture and foods, and she adored all types of animals. She volunteered at a thrift shop in Cape Coral, Fla., with proceeds going to a foster children's program, which was near and dear to her heart. St. Mary Magdalene was her favorite saint, and she loved Our Lady of Fatima. She will be missed by her family and friends. Emilia is survived by her daughters, Lucia Boga, and her husband, John, Sonia Figueiredo, and her companion, Trevor Wolfe; brothers Hugo and Ricardo Figueiredo, all of Gloucester; a sister Fernanda Simoes, and her husband, Jorge; and her brother Fernando Lopes, and his wife Graciete, all of Portugal; as well as 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Adelaide in Peabody, Mass.
