Ernest C.'s Story

Ernest C. Parsons, 92, of Gloucester, husband of the late Virginia (Beals) Parsons, passed away at the Addison Gilbert Hospital on July 1, 2016. Ernest was born in Rockport, Mass., on October 27, 1923, the son of the late Chester and Gertrude (Norris) Parsons. Ernie graduated from Rockport High School and continued his education at the Beverly Trade School. He had belonged to the Rockport Ski Hawks Club and worked as a ski patrolman at Black and Cannon Mountains in New Hampshire. Ernie served proudly in the U.S. Navy during WWII and served aboard the USS Cooner in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged at the rank of motor machinist first class. He was employed by The United Shoe Machinery for over 30 years. A very active man, he enjoyed square dancing alongside his wife, with the Gloucester Skippers and loved to golf and was a member of the Rockport Golf Club. He was awarded a Certificate of Continuous Membership for being a dedicated member for 70 years, from the American Legion Post 98 in Rockport where he was also a member of their firing squad. He was honored to be the Grand Marshall in one of the Rockport Memorial Day Parades. Ernie will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his sons, Steven Parsons and his wife, Anne of Gloucester, Allen Parsons and his wife, Judy of Golden, Colo.; a sister, Velma Madruga of Braedenton, Fla.; nieces, Sandra Madruga of Salem, N.H., and Nancy Ward and her husband, Colllie of Braedenton, Fla.; and his loving friend, Virginia Hale of Rockport. The family would like to thank the nurses on Steele 1 at Addison Gilbert Hospital for the tremendous care he was shown while he was there and the Seacoast nursing Staff on Cape Ann Way for the wonderful attention he was given while there for rehab.
There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery in Rockport on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 10 a.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, MA.
