Ethel E.'s Story
Ethel E. (Rich) Carlson, 65, wife of Edward C. Carlson of Rockport, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington.
Born in Rockport on June 1, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Jean (Cogswell) Rich.
Ethel was a graduate of Rockport High School with the Class of 1969 and also attended North Shore Community College.
As a young lady, Ethel had worked as a waitress for several years, and later worked at Pathways for Children before retiring.
Ethel was raised in a musical family and loved playing the piano and sang for many years in the choir at the First Congregational Church of Rockport. She passed down her love of music to her granddaughter, Karlee. She got much joy from attending Karlee's performances and recitals.
In addition to her husband, Edward, she is survived by her children, Linda Stewart and husband, Ken of Gloucester; Joseph Grilo and companion, Heather Wheeler of Beverly; stepson, Eric Carlson and wife, Tammy of Florida; her granddaughter, whom she adored, Karlee Hynes; her brother, Walter Rich and wife, Sally and children, Jessie and Ben of Essex; brother, Jim Rich of Florida; dear friend, Cindy Eaton; and many cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Marie Clancy.
Her funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Saturday, October 29, at 11 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport.
