Evelyn A. (Cross)'s Story
Mrs. Evelyn A. (Cross) Davis, 102, of Annisquam, passed away peacefully April 16, 2017, Easter Sunday morning at Addison Gilbert Hospital with her family at her side. She was the loving wife of the late John B. Davis.
Evelyn was born March 27, 1915, in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret (Dugan) Cross. She moved to the United States as a young girl at the age of 13 months her family settled in New Bedford where they lived 20 years before moving to Annisquam.
She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s Trucking and Excavating Company.
Evelyn was a long-time member of the Eastern Star Martha Washington Chapter. She and John enjoyed riding motorcycles and were members of the Retread Motorcycle Club. She had many wonderful friends who she shared her time with swimming at Sandy Bay Pool Club, as well as snowmobiling and picnicking on Goose Cove
She is survived by her devoted son, John “Jack” K. Davis and his wife, Maria of Gloucester; and her daughter-in-law, Donna L. Davis of Gloucester. She was the loving grandmother to Sarah Viands and her husband, Ned, and Ellen Evans and her husband, Matt. Her great-grandchildren with whom she was so very proud of include Braden and Katharine Viands, Kinsey and Mari Evans.
In addition to her husband, mother and father, Evelyn was predeceased by her son, Kent R. Davis, and her sister, Greta Hacking.
