Mrs. Fay B. (Bentley) Lawler, 83, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017, in Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
A true Gloucester girl at heart, and a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1952, she was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor (Friend) Bentley.
Fay traveled the world as an Army spouse from 1954 to 1978. Fay lived all over the nation and in Germany for four years, during which time she visited England, Holland, France, and Florence, Italy. She lived in Alaska before it became a state, where she got to see the Iditarod dogsled races. She returned to Cape Ann in 1980.
Fay was a fabulous cook, a wonderful mom, enjoyed painting, loved walking the Boulevard, and animals. In retirement, Fay tutored many people in writing and English as a second language at the Sawyer Free Library.
Fay is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Lawler and Joe Scanlon; her son and daughter-in-law, Mil and Laura Lawler; and two grandsons, Jude and Ivan; as well as her brother, John Bentley.
She was predeceased by her brother, Ray Bentley; and her sister, Ruthie Bentley.
