Frances (Walls) Trinkle, 87, of Rockport, passed away in the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester on Tuesday afternoon, September 6, 2016. Frances was born in South Bend, Ind., on March 30, 1929, the daughter of the late Otis and Mary Agnes (Dunn) Walls. She graduated from John Adams High School in South Bend and continued her education at Indiana University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in art. She began her professional career as a kitchen designer for Muetschler Brothers Kitchens in Nappannee, Ind. In her early forties, she returned to Indiana University to earn her Master’s degree in Education, and taught art at the Navarre Middle School in South Bend for almost 20 years. She took special pride in the relationships she developed with her students.
Frances loved to design and create many types of artwork, especially clay and copper enamel jewelry, which she generously shared with family and friends. An amateur photographer, she loved taking pictures on her travels to visit her daughter in California and Rockport, and with her friends in Florida and Virginia. A lifelong fascination with Egyptian art and culture inspired her to travel to Egypt in the 1980s, and she enthusiastically used her photos from the trip to create lesson plans for her students. In her later years, she became involved with genealogy and had a wonderful time researching her family’s history. She looked forward to her trips to Rockport each summer and Christmas to spend time with her grandchildren.
In 2006, Frances moved to Rockport to be close to her family. She moved to The Herrick House in Beverly in 2011 with her beloved cat, Mia, and greatly enjoyed her time there. She is survived by her daughter, Laura L. Lowell and her husband, James A. of Rockport; four grandchildren, Lindsay L. Lowell of St. John, USVI; Adam L. Lowell and his wife, Courtney, of Austin, Texas; Duncan C. Scott and his wife, Jessica, of Charlestown, Mass.; and Ryan “Zan” Scott and his wife, Lauren of Denver, Colo.
In keeping with the family’s wishes, there are no visiting hours. Her service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, Mass., on Saturday, September 10, at 12:30 p.m. Family and friends are cordially invited. Her burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Online condolences may be given at www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
