Francis G. "Frank"'s Story
Mr. Francis G. “Frank” Lewis, Jr., 67, of Gloucester, passed away on Monday afternoon, August 21, 2017, in Winchester Hospital following a lengthy illness with his loving family at his side. He was the husband of the late Joan E. (Blackburn) Lewis.
Francis was born August 23, 1949, in Gloucester. He was the son of the late Francis G. Lewis, Sr. and Eleanor E. “Dee Dee” (Herbert) Lewis. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1969.
He was a plumber and worked at M.I.T. for many years until having to retire due to ill health. He previously was the owner and operator of Francis G. Lewis, Jr. Plumbing. He took a liking to the plumbing trade at the age of 13.
He served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Navy Seabees.
He was a longtime parishioner at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church where he was also involved with St. Vincent dePaul and the Holy Name Society. He was also a member at the Vittori-Rocci Post in Beverly.
Francis is survived by his children, Francis G. Lewis, III and his wife, Amanda of Kittery Point, Maine; his daughter, Jennifer C. Lewis-Sanborn and her husband, David of Oceanside, Calif.; his brother, Alan M. Lewis and his wife, Sherri of Gloucester; his two sisters, Linda Mack and her husband, David and Tammy Lewis and her longtime partner, Scott Fligg, all of Gloucester. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Francis G. Lewis, IV and Ethan Lewis; his sister-in-law, Carol Blackburn of Gloucester; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Francis’ Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, 142 Prospect St., Gloucester on Friday, August 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. His visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester on Thursday evening, August 24, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
