George P. Lumbruno

May 12, 1928 - February 09, 2019

George P. Lumbruno Gloucester - George P. Lumbruno, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Grace “Gaye” R. (Pallazola) Lumbruno of Gloucester, Massachusetts, with whom he shared 65 wonderful years of marriage. In addition, he remained the loving father to his devoted daughter, Nancy Ann (Lumbruno) Johnson of Cape Ann.
George was born on May 12, 1928, to his parents, the late William and Nancy (Sabella) Lumbruno. As a youth, George grew up here on Cape Ann’s waterfront often working occasionally aboard several fishing boats. George also attended local schools.
During the Korean Conflict George entered and served proudly in the U.S. Army. His hard work ethic paid off as he advanced up through the ranks, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Cape Ann’s shores, again dated, and later married the love of his life, Grace R. Pallazola. The couple remained blessed with the birth of their beautiful daughter, Nancy-Ann on June 13, 1955.
Throughout his life, George was a career fisherman both here in Gloucester and in Cape May, New Jersey. George remained a “driving force” aboard many of the fishing boats that he worked aboard. Throughout his career, George also distinguished himself as a hard worker who knew his trade without question. In his later years, George fished out of Cape May, New Jersey, gaining a “site” aboard the “White Dove,” a well-known and highly respected tuna boat that many envied having a site aboard.
In George’s “retirement years,” he loved having his own vegetable garden and making Italian bread for the holiday seasons; and more importantly, sharing it with family and friends alike. Going to George and Gaye’s house Christmastime remained a real treat, rivaling even the very best of restaurants with their traditional fish meal being served.
George leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Grace R. (Pallazola) Lumbruno; his loving devoted daughter Nancy Ann and his son-in-law Bryan C. Johnson, all of Cape Ann. Further, George remained blessed with three grandsons, Bryan P. Johnson, Brandon R. Johnson, and Frank L. Sclafani. He also leaves two brothers, Consti P. Lumbruno of Cape May, New Jersey, Bill and wife Susan Lumbruno of Cape Ann; a sister-in-law Josephine Pallazola; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents William and Nancy Lumbruno; his in-laws, Captain Joseph and Vincie Pallazola, and Sister Josephine Lumbruno.
George was also predeceased by his brother and sister-in-laws Cosmo and Margaret (Peggy) Pallazola of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Rose and James Sinagra of Gloucester; brother and sister-in-law Jerome and Margie Pallazola of Gloucester; a brother-in-law Sebastian (Busty) Pallazola, all of Gloucester.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at 10 a.m., in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held immediately following his service in the Calvary Cemetery in Gloucester.
