Gloucester - George S. Johnson, 83, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2018, in Addison Gilbert Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband to Isabelle (Peckham) Johnson with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
George was born November 9, 1934, in Gloucester. He is the son of the late Karl and Shirley (Mack) Johnson. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester as well as a graduate of Gloucester High School.
He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War.
He was a boat carpenter for many years, working at the Gloucester Marine Railways. After leaving Gloucester Marine he painted houses for several years.
George enjoyed spending time with his loving family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed going to Foxwoods. One of George’s regular stops was Tony’s Variety to get his scratch tickets.
In addition to his dedicated wife Isabelle, George is survived by his two daughters Sandra J. Santos and her husband Patrick of Gloucester and Debra Romero and her husband Richard of Santa Clarita, Calif. He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Ryan and Brandon Santos, Connor and Emily Romero, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his mother and father, George is predeceased by his brother Karl Johnson Jr. and his sister Marilyn Scott.

George’s celebration of life will be in the West Gloucester Trinitarian Congregational Church, 488 Essex Ave., Gloucester, on Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 1 to 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
