Georgia's Story

GLOUCESTER: Georgia L. (Lewis) Forrest, 100, wife of the late John A. Forrest of Gloucester, passed away on Friday afternoon, March 4, 2016, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Gloucester on July 30, 1915, daughter of the late Gaspar and Georgianna (Burnham) Lewis.

Georgia was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1933, and was a lifelong Gloucester resident. She began her professional career as a cashier at First National Stores. Georgia also worked part-time as a waitress in the Cape Ann area and catered for Lufkin’s Catering Company. She worked for over 30 years as a teller at the Gloucester Co-Operative Bank.

She loved creating and working with her hands, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, and ceramics. Georgia enjoyed making hats, scarfs, sweaters, and blankets for her family.

Georgia loved swimming, dancing, and spending time travelling with the girls, Gladys Callahan and Jane Veator. In her later years, she enjoyed following the Professional Golfers Tour on television.

Georgia will be remembered for her sense of humor, clever wit, and dedication to her family. She will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Marianne F. Lufkin of Gloucester; three grandchildren, Fitz O. Lufkin III and his wife, Ellen D. of Gloucester, Fay P. Sims and her husband, D.A. Sims of Colorado, and Dean F. Lufkin of Florida; four great-grandchildren, Fitz O. Lufkin IV, Christopher R. Lufkin, Olivia F. Lufkin, and Madeleine A. Sims; and her brother, James R. Lewis and his wife, Ethel of Beverly; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary E. Lewis; four brothers, Manuel F, Gaspar J., Anthony F. and Francis G. Lewis; and her son-in-law, Fitz O. Lufkin, Jr.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church on Tuesday, March 8, at 12 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held in Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester.
