IPSWICH - Gerald L. Hannibal, husband of Janet R. (Tullercash) Perry-Hannibal, died Saturday, February 24, 2018, in the Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, Florida following his long illness.
Born in Gloucester, February 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Russell E. and Janet C. (Black) Hannibal. He was raised in Gloucester until his teenage years, then moved with his family to Beverly where he was a member of the Beverly High School graduating class of 1961. Jerry went on to serve four years in the U.S. Navy. He served during the "Cuban Blockade" and had many captivating stories of those years at sea. In his early years of employment he was well known for his success as a car salesman. Over the years he sold Chevrolets, Fords, Porsches, later managing a Mercedes Benz dealership. He also owned the former Jan and Jerry's Ice Cream Parlor, now Zumi's, on Market Street, Ipswich. For over a decade prior to his retirement he became a Realtor Associate with Seacoast Realty and then most recently an associate at the Ipswich Office of J. Barrett Real Estate. Jerry also participated in many clubs and organizations throughout Ipswich and the North Shore. He willingly volunteered his services as needed whenever he could.
He particularly loved being with all the grandkids and looked forward to their visits. He loved to watch their sports whenever he could. For many years he loved to play golf with family and friends and played in many tournaments and leagues.
Jerry was an avid woodcarver and created exquisite shore birds, many having won recognition at carving shows. He loved boating and spent years enjoying his boats docked at local marinas and had wonderful memories of boat trips throughout New England and of annual vacations cruising the U.S and British Virgin Islands with his wife and close friends. He and his wife also enjoyed many travel destination vacations in and out of the country with family and close friends. Jerry's family and friends lovingly remember all the wonderful winters while skiing at Pat's Peak in Henniker, NH.
Jerry and his wife Jan had decided this was the year to start spending the winter months in Florida and were totally thankful for the enjoyment of their brief stay.
