ROCKPORT: Gilda Slate of Rockport died suddenly on October 19, 2015 due to complications from a fall.
She was the daughter of Anthony de Francisci, sculptor and numismatist, and Teresa de Francisci who was the model for her husband's famous 1921 "Peace Dollar." Anthony also designed "The Ruptured Duck," the World War II veterans discharge emblem given to more than 16 million Americans.
Born in New York, Gilda was educated at Ethical Culture and Fieldston. She enjoyed a successful career as a commercial artist and will be remembered for her generous spirit and unparalleled dry wit. She will be sadly missed by her cousins, Jean Reaccuglia of Queens N.Y. and Marilyn Murton of Toronto, Canada, as well as her long-time companion, Arnold Knauth of Rockport.
A remembrance for Gilda will be announced at a later date.
