Girolamo F. "Mimo"'s Story
Girolamo Francesco “Mimo” Lentini, 70, of Gloucester, husband of Caterina “Tera” (Aleci) Lentini passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, November 26, 2017 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born in Marsala, Sicily, Italy on October 27, 1947, son of the late Giuseppe and Maria Graffeo Lentini.
He attended schools in Italy and at the age of 15 began working as a barber and came to the U.S. in 1968. Mimo worked as a master baker most of his life. He was a big part of opening Mike’s Pastry in the West End, Main Street, Gloucester MA in 1970 with his brother, Michael. Mimo later worked at Shaw’s for 10-plus years, serving customers baked goods and passing knowledge to coworkers over the years. He enjoyed vacations to Las Vegas, trips to Foxwoods with his wife Caterina, socializing with friends at the St. Peters Club, building and maintaining his home, working outdoors in his vegetable garden, landscaping, cooking family dinners and watching comedies/mobster movies. He loved walking his dog Angel and granddaughter Caterina along Stacy Boulevard, watching boats go by and greeting friends.
Mimo very much loved being with his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and best friend.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, but were together for 51 years, Caterina “Tera” Lentini; his sons, Joseph Lentini, Domenic Lentini and his wife Katiuscia, Daniel Lentini; his daughter, Mary Grace Buccheri and her husband Andy; all of Gloucester; six grandchildren, Zachary, Thea and Corey Lentini, Monique and Domenico Lentini and Caterina Buccheri; his brother, Francesco Lentini and his wife Rosetta of Australia; two sisters, Antonina Azzaro of Revere, Josephine Scuderi of Gloucester; sisters-in-law, Rosa Lentini, Maria Aleci Bonomo and her husband, Giuseppe, Rosetta Aleci Zizzo and her husband, Bartolomeo, Anna Aleci Martino and her husband, Giovanni, Carmela Aleci Sossio and her husband, Franco, all of Marsala; brothers-in-law, Vito Aleci and his wife, Serafina, Gioachino Aleci and his wife Rosalba all of Marsala; his canine companion Angel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Ignazia and Domenico Aleci of Italy; by his brothers, Salvatore and Michael Lentini; sister in-law, Katherine Lentini; brother in-law, Antonino Azzaro; brother in-law, Vincent Scuderi; nephew/godson, Paul Scuderi; niece, Maria Lentini and Mimo’s loving dog, Princess.
Our family would like to thank the respiratory staff and nurses at Addison Gilbert Hospital for exceptional care of Mimo during his time there, very much appreciated by all of us.
His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Saturday, December 2, at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrating his life at St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
