Rockport - Grant W. Newman, 76, of Rockport, husband of the late June E. (MacLean) Newman passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday evening, April 2, 2019, at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
He was born in Gloucester on April 8, 1942, son of the late Grant T. and Gertrude E. (Korpi) Newman.
Grant was a graduate of Rockport High School, class of 1961. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era, 1961-1965. Following his service to his country, he was employed for a few years at General Electric in Lynn, that's when he met the love of his life June and the rest was history. He later moved to Rockport and worked for over 35 years at the Rockport DPW, retiring in 2003.
He was an adventurous man and a great outdoorsman who never missed out on an opportunity. He had a great love for traveling, having traveled to Peru, where he hiked Machu Picchu and Alaska as well as many trips with his family across country. Grant enjoyed antique cars and would travel with friends and family to many old car shows including Hershey, Pa.; they did this for over 30 years. He also had a great love of photography.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa J. Newman; his son, Grant E. Newman and his wife Christina E. Anello Newman, all of Rockport; three grandchildren, Trevor Duke, Michael Newman, and Olivia Newman; his sister, Marilyn Militello and her husband Matthew; his brother, Bruce Newman and his wife Deborah; sister-in-law, Ivy Collins and her husband Richard; nieces, Holly Newman, Patsy McLeary, Kathleen McLeary, Deborah Bouchard, Jackie Bouchard and Colleen Ruble; nephews, Steven, Militello, Keith Militello, Timothy Bouchard; cousin, Johnny Kauponen; and many great-nieces and -nephews.

His memorial service will be held in the First Congregational Church of Rockport on Saturday April 27 at 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held privately.
