Harold E. Jesso Jr.

Harold E. Jesso Jr. Gloucester - Harold E. Jesso Jr., 92, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 16, 2018. He is the husband of the late Shirley (Brooks) Jesso.
Harold was born December 14, 1926, in Gloucester, he is the son of the late Harold and Margaret (McDonald) Jesso. He grew up in Gloucester and attended St. Ann’s School. He later moved to Venice Florida and returned to Gloucester four months ago.
Harold joined the United States Navy on April 4, 1944, and served during WW II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. Harold was discharged on March 19, 1965, after serving with the Navy for 21 years. He was a member of the Navy Reserve for many years after retiring from active duty.
After returning to Gloucester after serving in the Navy he worked at Mighty Mac’s and BFGoodrich.
He enjoyed writing poems, visiting with his fellow veterans at local VFW Posts. He also enjoyed walking in Ravens Woods and Mount Vernon where he would pick blueberries and raspberries. He was an avid coin collector.
Harold is survived by his daughter Ida Marie Wolkiewicz and her husband Edward of the Villages, Fla.; his brother Ronald Jesso of Gloucester with whom he resided; two grandchildren, Jessica Wolkiewicz, and Ginelle Massey and her husband Jay. His two great-grandchildren, Axel and Miles Massey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Shirley and his parents; Harold is also predeceased by his brothers, Warren and Leo Jesso, and Lola Philips.

Harold’s funeral service will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at 12 p.m. His visiting hours will be prior to funeral services on Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Harold’s memory may be made to the Gloucester WWII Memorial c/o the Gloucester House, 63 Rogers St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
