Irene E. Geary

May 07, 1933 - January 04, 2019

Irene E. Geary Gloucester - Irene E. (Carroll) Geary, 85, wife of Robert D. Geary, life-long resident of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, January 4, 2019.
She was born in Gloucester on May 7, 1933, to the late Daniel Francis and Margaret Helena (Corcoran) Carroll.
Irene was a graduate of St. Ann’s High School, class of 1951. She loved the simple pleasures in life; long drives with her husband, where they would spend many Saturdays “yard sailing” and going to Building 19, laughing around the campfire of their small camp in Ossipee, N.H., and summer days lying on Niles beach with her sister, Dot. She was known to her family and friends as “Our Lady Queen of the yard sales.” Irene had a life-long love of animals and an affinity for taking in stray cats which her entire family remembers fondly. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Irene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert D. Geary; three daughters, Donna Smith and her husband Stephen of Ipswich, Fayemarie McGrath and her husband Timothy of Raleigh, N.C., Cynthia Geary and her husband Rich Souza of Gloucester; three sons, Robert Geary Jr., Dana Geary and his wife Kristine, Timothy Geary and his wife Celeste, all of Gloucester. Her many grandchildren, Stacy Smith, Stephen McGrath, Cody Geary, Christine Chermak, Conor Geary, Martine Geary-Souza, Brendan Geary, Robert Geary III and Alexis Geary; two great-grandchildren, Caleb Geary, Ryker McGrath, and one on the way! She is also survived by her sister, June St. Jacques of Rowley.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Nicole Geary-Phelan; her infant twin brother, Daniel Carroll; sisters, Mary Arruda, Ethel Ragusa, and Dorothy Souza.

Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, 72 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, on Wednesday, January 9, at 9:30 am. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. A reception will follow the church service at the Mile Marker One Restaurant, 75 Essex Ave., Gloucester. There will be no visiting hours and the family wishes to keep the interment a private affair.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Cape Ann Animal Aid in Gloucester in celebration of her love of saving homeless animals.
Arrangements by Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. For online condolence, please visit www.greelyfuneralhome.com.
