James A.'s Story

James A. Densmore, a long-time resident of Shapleigh, Maine, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28, 2016. A native of Gloucester, Mass., Jim was born October 1, 1943, to the late Capt. Michael Densmore and Mary Densmore Flynn.
Jim is survived by his wife, Stephanie Pratt Densmore of Shapleigh, Maine; his son, Brendan and wife, Bobbie of Wells, Maine; his daughter, Anne Black and her husband, Paul; granddaughter, Alezandra; great-granddaughters, Sienna and Elise of Newton Falls, Ohio; brother, Michael Densmore of Gloucester, Mass.; and sisters, Anne Cavanaugh and husband, Dennis of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Catherine Canillas and husband, John of Deltona, Fla., Mary Atwood and Ronald of Orlando, Fla., Peggy Teeling and Brendan of Ipswich, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Seamus Densmore; sister, Betty Lafata; and brother, Brendan Densmore.
Jim was a graduate of Gloucester High School and held an associates degree from University of Southern Maine.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps and attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in Vietnam. Prior to being deployed to Vietnam, he toured with the Marine Corps Golf Team. He was honorably discharged and awarded a Purple Heart.
He was an avid New England sports fan and loved Notre Dame Football. Jim coached numerous youth sports including baseball, football, soccer and hockey. He was a coach and founder of the Mahoning Valley Youth Hockey Association in Ohio. At Bass Rocks Golf Club in Gloucester, Mass., in 1963, at the age of 19, he held the title of the youngest Club Champion.
A special heartfelt thanks for the attention and care our family and Jim experienced at the Special Care Unit at Southern Maine Healthcare in Biddeford, Maine and Michael LeVasseur at Carll Heald and Black Funeral Home in Springvale, Maine.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and also Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 12 noon at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church, 10 Payne St., Springvale. Burial with military honors will follow at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
