James H.'s Story
James H. Brennan, 91, of Gloucester, husband of the late Margaret (Glynn) Brennan, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Gloucester on April 5, 1926, son of the late James and Rose (Maciel) Brennan.
Jim was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1943, and was appointed to Kings Point Academy in New York in 1944. He proudly served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, having received the Atlantic war zone bar, Pacific war zone bar and the Mediterranean-Middle East war zone bar.
He was employed for over 25 years as chief security officer at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home.
Jim was a superb athlete and played semi-pro baseball in New Haven and was also a history buff. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
James is survived by his three daughters, Christine Strangeland of San Pedro, Calif., Joan Theresa DeWese of Farmington, Conn., and Nancy Felenchak and her husband, Willliam of Willow Park, Texas. He also leaves seven grandchildren; his sisters, Joan Kelley and her husband, John of Rockport, Mass., and Elizabeth Hozell of Mission, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his three daughters, Eve (Welch) Stutsman.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Our Lady of Good Voyage Church, Gloucester on Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
There will be no visiting hours and the burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery, Gloucester.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater New England Chapter, 101A 1st Avenue, Waltham, MA 02451 or to a charity of your choice.
