James H.'s Story
James (Jim) H. Knowlton, 50, of Gloucester, husband of Debbie (Jakimczyk) Knowlton, passed away unexpectedly in his home on January 30, 2017.
Jim was born in Portsmouth, N.H. on February 15, 1966, the son of Jane (Harrison) Knowlton and the late Carl F. Knowlton. He graduated from Mahar Regional High School in Orange, MA and obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Jim was a licensed Professional Chemical Engineer by many states and enjoyed a successful national and international career in the power industry. Jim enjoyed fresh and salt water fishing, kayaking, and skiing. He loved to listen to all genres of music from John Denver to Roger Waters to The Foo Fighters. Most of all he loved his four girls and life itself. His sudden death has left a large void in his family and friends’ lives and he will be missed tremendously. He is survived by his wife Debbie and his three daughters, Audrey, Emma and Claire Knowlton, all of Gloucester; his three brothers, Carl Knowlton and his wife, Camille of Ashland, David Knowlton and his wife, Rachel of Rockport, John Knowlton and his wife, Jeanine of Middleboro, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held today, Thursday, February 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester. Family and friends are cordially invited. His funeral will be held from the Greely Funeral Home on Friday, February 3 at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church, Holy Family Parish, 60 Prospect Street, Gloucester. Burial will be held privately. A reception will follow the Mass at The Elks at Bass Rocks, 101 Atlantic Road, Gloucester, to celebrate Jim’s colorful life with us.
