James Joseph's Story
James Joseph Hession, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 10, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was 84 years old.
He was born on November 23, 1932, in Woburn, son of the late James J. Hession Sr. and Anne Flaherty Hession.
Jim attended St. James Elementary and Woburn High School, graduating in 1950. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956. Jim attended Boston College, graduating in 1960.
Jim retired from Varian in Beverly as a senior purchasing agent. He worked there from 1962 to 1992.
Jim was married to Martha Crockett Hession on July 1, 1960. Martha had three children, David, Anne, and George. Jim, Martha, and family moved to Rockport shortly after their marriage. They enjoyed all that Rockport had to offer. Jim’s fondest memories where the nightly walks to Long Beach from their house. Jim enjoyed working in his yard, which he did up until a year ago. He always had a flower garden to watch over and a lawn that was well cared for.
Jim and Martha where able to vacation to some wonderful locations including Aruba, Bermuda, Montreal, Nova Scotia, Florida, and his favorite Canary Islands. The family also enjoyed many summer vacations with Jim and Martha Loftus from Winchester, at their summer home in Center Ossipee, N.H.
After Martha passed away in 2004, he met Arlene Dohmann from Albuquerque, N.M. Jim was able to spend many winters with her in Albuquerque.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, James J. Hession, Sr. and Anne Flaherty Hession; his wife of 44 years, Martha Crockett Hession; sisters, Helen Hession Tedesco and husband, Edward Tedesco of Woburn, Rose Ann Hession Whiteway and husband, Grant Whiteway of Billerica.
He is survived by his sister, MaryLou Hession Hanson and husband, Carl Hanson of Woburn; children, David Dolloff and wife, Regina Jabba Dolloff of Gloucester, Anne Brissette and companion, Ron Puchalski of Salisbury and George Dolloff, Jr.; grandchildren, Lauren, Erica, and Sara Dolloff, Julie Desmond, Abby Simard, Zachery Dolloff, Mark, Ashley, and Helen Dolloff; several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joachim’s Church, Holy Family Parish, Broadway, Rockport on Wednesday, June 14, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There will be no visiting hours.
The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Rockport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923, or to VNA Care Network & Hospice, 8 Angle St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
