MAGNOLIA - Jane (Harrison) Knowlton, of Gloucester, died on February 20, 2018; after a brief illness and stay at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. She was 83 years old.
Jane was born June 18, 1934 in Concord, NH to John T. and Mary (Hardiman) Harrison, along with five older siblings. She met her husband Carl while attending Plymouth State Teachers College. Jane and Carl married in 1959 and shared 42 years of marriage. Both Jane and Carl enjoyed careers in education. Jane was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, friends and neighbors, during the holidays and family gatherings at the family cottage on Lake Winona in New Hampton, N.H. Her grandchildren gave her much joy as she watched them grow into fine young adults. She also relished cheering on her grandchildren at their various sporting events and activities. Jane was known for her glowing smile and good sense of humor. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Carl F. Knowlton, Sr. and her youngest son, James H. Knowlton, of Gloucester, and sisters, Mary Bunker, Jean Keegan, and brother, John Harrison. Jane is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Carl, Jr., and wife, Camille Knowlton of Ashland, David, and wife, Rachel Knowlton, of Rockport, John, and wife Jeanine Knowlton, of Middleboro and Debbie Knowlton of Gloucester. Jane is also survived by her sisters, Ann Carroll, Louise Skinner, and her 10 grandchildren, Audrey, Carl III, Sam, Emma, Ben, Caroline, Sarah, Jack, Claire and Jake Knowlton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St., Gloucester, Mass. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, at St. Ann's Church on Pleasant Street Gloucester, Mass. Relatives and friends, are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Rose Baker Senior Center, 6 Manuel F. Lewis Road, Gloucester, MA, 01930.
