Janet Ellen's Story
Janet Ellen Langley, 66, a Gloucester native and lifelong resident, passed away on Friday night at Addison Gilbert Hospital where she was born. In her final days, as a seven-year battle with cancer drew to a close, she was surrounded by family and the many close and cherished friends who leant richness and meaning to her life.
Janet harkens from a long line of Gloucester ancestors; her parents, Margaret Louise Tarbox “Peggy” and Charles E. Langley, also grew up here. She attended Gloucester schools, graduating from Gloucester High School in 1969. Her friendships extended from the earliest years of school through the time of her illness. She lived within a circle of love which knew no bounds.
Janet made a career in the insurance industry, working for several Cape Ann firms. A licensed broker, she last worked for Carol Steel Insurance where, it is said, customers still ask for her. Her departure was illness related.
Janet loved nothing more than a day at the beach with her friends and wiled away many an hour at Niles, drinking in the sea air and delighting in the warmth of the sun and the beauty of Gloucester’s Outer Harbor.
Janet is survived by her brother, Larry A. Langley, and cousins, Everett Langley, George Langley and Aarne Langley. Other cousins included Fred Tarbox, Pam Tarbox McKechnie, Cheryl Tarbox Powers, Michelene Tarbox, Dawn Thomas, Robert Tarbox and Dana Tarbox. She had two goddaughters, Lacey D’Amico Curcuru and Sophia Grausam.
Janet’s visiting hours will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Service will be on Wednesday evening immediately following visiting hours.
