Gloucester - Jerome P. "Jerry" Palazola, 77, beloved husband of Josephine M. "Josie" (Frontiero) Palazola, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, March 23, in his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. He and his wife Josie, happily celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past September.
Born in Gloucester on March 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Gaspar and Antoinette (Loiacano) Palazola.
At the age of 14 Jerome began his lifelong work as a commercial fisherman. Over the years, Jerome worked on many vessels including the Rockaway, Andromeda, St. Jude, St. Mary, Capt. Joe, Pilgrim, St. Joseph, Little Sandra, Red Diamond5, Salvatore P., Little Sandra, Seabuddy, and finally the Maryanne before retiring. He always had a love of the ocean and fresh air.
When at home, he loved tending to his yard and working to keep his backyard pool spotless for his family and friends. He enjoyed going to the casino, playing cribbage, bowling, watching sports and movies, listening to music, and he loved cooking and spending time with all the grandchildren. Family meant everything to him, holidays brought everyone together and the house was filled with laughter and joy. What made him the happiest was spending his days with his loving wife, Josie. He also loved taking his beloved dog Rocky for walks around the neighborhood. He was a lifelong member of the St. Peter's Club and former member of the Elks Lodge. He was also a lifelong member of St. Ann's Church.
In addition to his wife Josie he is survived by his son Gary Palazola; his daughter Annette Nolan and husband Timothy; grandchildren, Gary Jr., Thomas, Jennifer, Joshua and Jason Palazola, Kevin and Ericca Nolan; and two great grandchildren, Harper and Braiden; brother Anthony Palazola and wife Maryann; sister Madeline Campbell and husband Douglas; sister-in-law Cathy and husband Skip Spiro of Calif.; brother-in-law Joseph and Maria Frontiero; aunts Vincie Gounares, Mary Scola, Nina Frontier, Sally Caron; and uncle Anthony Loiacano; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved dog Rocky.
He was predeceased by his sisters Frances Kreseskie and husband Frank, Mary Brooks; and brother-in-law Thomas Frontiero.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church on Saturday, March 30 at 10:30 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
