GLOUCESTER: John T. Ahonen, 79, of Gloucester, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at the Addison Gilbert Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Gloucester on December 22, 1936, son of the late Alexander and Helen (Burke) Ahonen.
John was a graduate of Gloucester High School, Class of 1956. In his early years, he enjoyed lobstering with his father. He later worked for over 35 years at the Cape Ann Bowling Alley, maintaining the alleys and keeping things orderly. He also loved to go dancing, to the races and watching the Red Sox. He will sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Carole Ahonen of Gloucester and his dear friend, Tony Nicastro. The family would like to thank the staff at the Yellow Sub Shop and McPherson Park for always being there for him.
His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Wednesday, February 24, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Seaside Cemetery, Gloucester. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Cape Ann Aid Association, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930.
