John F. Budrow Jr.
He was born in Gloucester on August 25, 1948, son of the late John F. and Christine (Recine) Budrow.
Jack was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1966, where he excelled at athletics. He played baseball, and captained the varsity football team. He later graduated from the Lowell Technology Institute, and completed post graduate studies at Northeastern University.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star with a V for Valor, and the Purple Heart.
Jack was an Analyst at GTE, later Osram Sylvania, in Danvers, for nearly 20 years, and continued in the same field until retirement from the Gillette Company, in South Boston, in 2008. At heart, Jack loved to work with his hands which brought him into real estate. He owned several apartment homes in Gloucester, and Beverly, where he enjoyed the work, and the tenants
Jack didn't talk much about his achievements, and his service to the communities he loved. He was more interested in hearing other people's stories, but Jack quietly served his community. He volunteered at the Beverly Senior Center, where he served weekly meals. He also served the Essex County Greenbelt, and participated in the Osprey nest monitoring program throughout Cape Ann.
He had many interests, and loved the outdoors. He was an avid traveler, enjoyed scuba diving, bike, golf, and spending time with family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his two sons, John Budrow, of Gloucester, and Nathan Budrow, and his wife, Laury, of Charlestown; their mother, Karen Pratt Budrow, his sisters; Mary Palazola, and her husband, Joseph, of Beverly, Gerry Burns, of Gloucester; Colleen Lacey, and husband, Peter, of Gloucester; and brother, Michael Budrow, of Damariscotta, Maine, and his wife Angela; he is also survived by his loving companion, Mary Ellen Frazer, of Beverly; many special friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Matthew Budrow.
His funeral service will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA, on Friday, February 9, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
Visiting hours in the Greely Funeral Home will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
