John H. Burke

Gloucester - Mr. John H. Burke, 72, of Gloucester, passed away on Friday evening, August 3, 2018, in Gloucester Health Care following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Linda D. (Wood) Burke with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.
John was born December 28, 1945, in Gloucester. He is the son of the late Gardner T. and Jeanette E. (Burgess) Burke. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and was a graduate of Gloucester High School.
John worked as a Leadman and Mechanic at Gloucester Engineering for 47 years until his retirement in 2012. He previously worked for the former Crocker Security Company.
John enjoyed spending time with his family weather it was taking the grandchildren to Storyland, traveling to Disney, camping, fishing with Tommy, hunting with George or playing games. John would do anything you asked him to do. He also enjoyed dancing. He was a member of the Cape Ann Sportsmen Club and the Gloucester Elks Lodge 892.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife Linda, John is survived by his son Scott G. Burke and his wife Cindy; his daughter Julie Anne Burke, all of Gloucester; his brother Andrew Burke and his wife Carol of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his sister Jean Hawley of Newmarket, N.H.; his cherished granddaughters who were the love of his life and the sparkle in his eyes Katie-Lyn and Kyleigh Burke; his sister-in-law Sharon Cooper of Gloucester; as well as many nieces, nephews; and good friends Ronald and Lillian Trecartin of Danvers.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy Burke, Katherine Burke and Patricia Allen Ramsdell; his brothers-in-law and great friends George Hawley and Tommy Cooper.
John’s family would like to thank the staff at Gloucester Health Care and All Care Hospice for the wonderful care given to John and the outpouring of support to his family.

John’s Funeral Service will be in the Pike-Newhall Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester, on Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at 12 p.m. Visiting hours will be in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in Dolliver Memorial Cemetery, West Gloucester.
